NXT Recap: Moustache Mountain vs. reDRagon

Photo from WWE.com

On this week’s action-packed episode of NXT, Johnny Gargano is in action for the second consecutive week, Bianca Belair faces Lacey Evans, Lars Sullivan takes on No Way Jose, and Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) fight reDRagon (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly).

Johnny Gargano vs. Tino Sabbatelli (w/Riddick Moss)
After Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss made fun of Johnny Gargano for losing to Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, Gargano challenged wither one of them to a match. Moss accepted the challenge last week and lost to the former NXT Tag Team Champion. Sabbatelli called that win a “fluke” and looks to avenge his partner by taking on Johnny Wrestling himself.

Gargano counters what Sabbatelli throws at him and turns it into a submission move (that looks like the Rings of Saturn) for the win. Winner (via submission): Johnny Gargano

In two weeks, Roderick Strong will challenge Drew McIntyre for the NXT Championship.

Lacey Evans vs. Bianca Belair
The last match featured a competitor from the WWE Cruiserweight Classic and now NXT features two women who impressed in the Mae Young Classic. Lacey Evans put on a couple good matches but could not get past Toni Storm in the second round. Bianca Belair also only made it to the second round, where she lost in an incredible match to the tournament’s eventual winner, Kairi Sane. Both of these women are surprisingly good for how little they have been wrestling.

Belair whips Evans with her hair (which is brutal and also legal) before finishing the former Marine off with an Alley-oop driver. Winner: Bianca Belair

Aleister Black Speaks
Several months ago, Aleister Black made a huge debut in NXT and has continued to be a fan favorite ever since. He starts talking about how he has been on a 15-year long journey to get to NXT, but once he starts talking about the future of his journey, he is interrupted by the Velveteen Dream. Dream says that Black is putting on a facade and that he as not as calm, cool, and collected as he appears to be. Black responds by kicking the microphone out of Dream’s hand and the two stare each other down to end the segment.

No Way Jose vs. Lars Sullivan
On the post-TakeOver episode of NXT a few weeks ago, Lars Sullivan attacked No Way Jose from behind and gained himself an enemy. Jose wanted to challenge Sullivan man-to-man (not like Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor), to see if Sullivan can defeat Jose in a fair fight. A couple weeks ago, Sullivan won a 3-on-1 handicap match, so it seems like he cannot be stopped.

Even though Jose is a pretty big heavyweight (about the size of Roman Reigns), Sullivan makes him look small. Sullivan charges right through a clothesline attempts to hit a shoulder tackle. Sullivan then climbs to the top rope to land a diving headbutt (with the biggest head in NXT, according to Nigel McGuinness), then he finishes Jose off with a unique spinebuster. Winner: Lars Sullivan

Trent Seven & Tyler Bate vs. Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly (w/Adam Cole)
At NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly made a statement by attacking both SAnitY and the NXT Champion, Drew McIntyre. The attacks would continue up through last week, where the trio attacked Wolfgang after he failed to capture the WWE United Kingdom Championship from Pete Dunne.

While Bobby Fish enters the ring to break up Trent Seven’s one-legged Boston Crab on Kyle O’Reilly, Adam Cole (who is not in the match) nails Tyler Bate with a superkick behind the referee’s back. Fish and O’Reilly then double team Seven for the victory. Winners: Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly

When the victors start celebrating, Drew McIntyre makes his way to the ring in pursuit of some revenge for getting attacked right after capturing the NXT Championship. Cole, Fish, and O’Reilly start retreating when SAnitY shows up from behind. The NXT Tag Team Champions send them fleeing and it seems like we might have our new title feuds set up.
