Undeniably – in terms of pound for pound sports talent – we don’t write enough about the Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid. The captain and center of the team, he put on his best display of play in his entire career perhaps on Thursday night.
Furthermore, the match-up was against the heavily favored (and loaded) Washington Capitals. While Edmonton trailed entering the third period 3-1, they still have the best player in the sport on their side. Then, they went to work.

Then in overtime, he assisted Leon Draisatl for his third point of the night. Draisatl’s game-winer moved Edmonton to 8-2-1 on the young season, which is obviously their best start in a decade or so.
Altogether, McDavid totaled three points with the goal and two assists. Equally important, he was Edmonton’s only player with a +4 rating; which means he was on the ice for all four goals and none against. Notably, this ends a three game drought of scoring for the Oilers’ captain.
Currently McDavid has 6 goals and 14 assists, giving him a monstrous 20 points in 11 team games played.
Moreover, if you’re only slightly familiar with the sport; the Edmonton Oilers are like the Green Bay Packers in football. As rabid a fan base as in existence, and a fiercely loyal bunch that gets feisty when it’s home ice.
The Oilers entered the 2019-2020 season as a +3300 team to win the Stanley Cup. Now – even as a heavy underdog – they’re one of the best stories going in hockey in the young season.
