Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg has been unable to fully participate in early spring training activities as he manages multiple injuries, including a previous right oblique issue and a more recent elbow problem. Team personnel described him as “physically unable” to take part in standard on-field work at the start of camp, leading the club to proceed cautiously as preparations begin for the upcoming season.

Westburg’s right oblique injury dates back to late last season, when discomfort in his side limited his availability and required rest and treatment. Oblique injuries can be particularly challenging for hitters and infielders because of the rotational demands of swinging and throwing. Even after an offseason of recovery, residual tightness or weakness can linger, which often prompts teams to slow a player’s ramp-up to avoid recurrence.

Complicating matters is a new elbow issue that surfaced as Westburg reported to camp. The Orioles have not detailed the severity or exact nature of the elbow problem, but its emergence has contributed to the decision to restrict his activity level. Elbow concerns are treated carefully across the league, especially for players who rely heavily on arm strength both in the field and at the plate. For now, Westburg has been held back from typical spring workloads while the team monitors his response to treatment and light conditioning.

The Orioles see Westburg as part of their young core, and his status is of interest as they shape their infield plans. After showing promise with his versatility and offensive potential, he entered camp expected to compete for regular playing time. His current limitations, however, mean that the club may need to evaluate alternative infield alignments in early exhibition games while he works toward full health.

No specific timetable has been publicly set for Westburg’s return to full participation, and the team has not announced any formal roster moves in connection with his condition. For now, the focus remains on careful management of both the lingering oblique issue and the newer elbow concern, with the goal of ensuring he is ready to contribute once he is cleared for a normal spring workload. The Orioles are likely to provide further updates as medical evaluations continue and Westburg progresses through his rehabilitation and conditioning program.
