The report says the San Diego Padres placed catcher Luis Campusano on the 10-day injured list with a broken left toe and recalled 28-year-old Rodolfo Durán to make his major league debut Thursday night.
According to the report, Campusano fouled a ball off his foot on Tuesday. The veteran backup had been off to an impressive start this season, batting .288 with a .958 OPS in a tandem with Freddy Fermin, the report says. Manager Craig Stammen described the injury as “a little fracture in his big toe” and said Campusano might have been able to play through it depending on pain tolerance, but that the team preferred to address it with an IL stint.
The move also cleared a roster spot for Durán to reach the majors for the first time after a minor league career that began in 2015, the report says. The Dominican catcher began in the Phillies organization, spent time in the minors with the Yankees and Royals, and signed with the Padres in January 2025. Durán is batting .238 with a .785 OPS in 23 games for Triple-A El Paso this season, per the report.
Durán was in the Padres’ lineup batting ninth and catching right-hander Michael King for San Diego’s homestand opener against St. Louis, the report says. Stammen was complimentary: “This is a pretty cool call-up for him and all of us,” and added that he expected Durán to be a “great catcher,” noting his arm and recent improvement at the plate.
The report also says the Padres transferred right-hander Joe Musgrove to the 60-day injured list as his return from Tommy John surgery has progressed more slowly than hoped. Musgrove hasn’t pitched since the NL playoffs in October 2024, made only one appearance in spring training, and still has not started throwing again. Stammen said, “He’s just focused on getting healthy, doing whatever he needs to do on a daily basis.”
