PBC on Spike TV Sep 9 – WBO middleweight world champion Daniel Jacobs returns to the ring this Friday night to face the challenge of Sergio Mora at the Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. The fight is one of two world title fights atop the Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV broadcast, and the fight is a rematch of an August of 2015 meeting that ended abruptly.

Jacobs is a bit of a forgotten man in the middleweight division. His last outing saw him stop the highly regarded Peter Quillin in the first round of their fight this past December, and that seemed to set Jacobs up for big things. Unfortunately, a follow-up fight in England against Andy Lee never came to fruition, and Jacobs had a fight announced in July that did not go down.

The first fight against Mora saw both men hit the canvas in the opening round, only to have Mora sprain an ankle in round 2. With such an unsatisfying ending the first time around, Jacobs may be happy to shut the door on Mora and his challenge, but these were two men heading in different directions last fight and that feeling has only been made worse with the passage of time. Jacobs is looking to make big money fights and has been calling out the likes of Gennady Golovkin, while Mora is now 36 years old and he has not fought since that last Jacobs fight.

The second world title fight at lightweight is intriguing because it pits two young, undefeated fighters in their first world title bids. Robert Easter Jr (17-0) is fighting one state over from his home state of Ohio and he has been featured on several PBC broadcasts this year already. Despite the feature spots, Easter does not have any world beaters on his resume and this is a step-up fight for him in every way. Commey is 24-0 and he comes from Ghana, in Africa. Ghana has produced many fine boxers in its history and Commey would like to etch his name alongside greats like Ike Quartey and Azumah Nelson. He is off to a good start as he has a considerable amount of international experience, winning at every level. He has fought in Denmark and the United Kingdom, and he logged an 8th round TKO stoppage over Bahodir Mamadjonov in May of 2015 for his American debut.

Several other fights on this PBC card could pop up at the sports books by weeks end, especially the 10-round heavyweight match-up pitting Travis Kauffman (31-1) and Josh Gormley (22-5). A couple of familiar names also pop up in eight round matches as welterweight Kermit Cintron (37-5-2) and middleweight Jorge Seabastian Heiland (27-4-2) look to notch wins.
