PGA Fantasy: Deutsche Bank Championship Lineup

Rory McIlroy stole the show with a win at the Deutsche Bank Championship last week. All eyes will be on the Northern Irishman once again heading in to the third week of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Mclroy is listed as the sports betting favorite to win this week’s BMW Championship and there is no doubt that you will want to have him in your golf fantasy lineup. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy tournaments.

Rory McIlroy, $11,900

Rory is the most expensive player on the board for this week at $11.9K but he is worth the price as he looks to win the BMW Championship for the second time in his career. McIlroy last won this event the last time it was hosted at Crooked Stick four years ago and after making minor adjustments to his putting grip he looks to be in his best form heading in to this week. McIlroy won at TPC Boston in 2012 and then followed it up with a win at the BMW Championship so the precedent is certainly there. We will bank on history repeating itself with Rory as the top option on our board. He’s coming off a win and has a good history at the course, so that’s why we’re investing here for golf fantasy purposes.

Patrick Reed, $9,700

Reed has been absolutely on fire so the fact that he is listed at below $10K makes him an obvious pick for our DraftKings lineup. Reed followed up his win at The Barclays with a tie for fifth a tie for fifth at the Deutsche Bank Championship and he now has seven straight top-25 finishes under his belt. Reed will look to stay hot this week and at just $9.7K he should be an obvious value pick in the majority in golf fantasy.

Phil Mickelson, $8,800

Mickelson is coming off a tough week at Boston but that will only serve as added motivation after he had some extra time off to rest and think about this week following a missed cut at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Mickelson tied for second at the BMW Championship back in 2012 when it was at Crooked Stick, so there is reason to believe he will bounce back this week. Mickelson had posted top-15 finishes in two of his previous three starts and we won’t be surprised if he finishes in the top-10 while contending for the outright win this week. His last three finishes are 13th, 33rd and second, so we’re hoping for a good result at this event this week.

Ryan Palmer, $6,800

Palmer was a smart value play last week when he recorded a top-25 finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship and we are banking on him being a smart value play again this week at the BMW Championship. Palmer has climbed to 47th in the playoff standings but he will need a strong outing this week to earn a spot at East Lake for the FedEx Cup finale so he should be motivated and focused.

David Hearn, $6,700

Hearn fired back-to-back 68’s to put himself in contention at the Deutsche Bank Championship last week and managed to finish in eighth place after finishing at nine-under. It was a strong performance from the Canadian following  a trio of disappointing starts and it could be the result he needs to gain some confidence and momentum heading in to the BMW Championship. Hearn is available at a very reasonable $6.7K so we will take a chance on him as a value play in golf fantasy for this week.

Jim Herman, $6,100

Herman is an intriguing value dark horse pick at $6.1K. He has placed in the top-35 in each of the first two playoff events including at T-22 at The Barclays so he is on our radar this week as a player that can seriously outperform his price tag. There is some risk with this selection but the potential reward is great enough that we are willing to bet on Herman continuing to perform at a high level at this week’s BMW Championship.
