The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins over the weekend and followed the series with a social-media poke at their visitors. After the finale, the club’s X account posted the Twins’ logo with the W removed from the team name, according to the Pirates’ X account.
The series began with two tight games, each decided by a single run. The opening contest was settled on a dramatic two-run, walk-off home run by Bryan Reynolds that handed Pittsburgh the Friday victory, and the Pirates edged the Twins again on Saturday by one run.
Sunday’s finale produced a more decisive 9-3 result as seven different Pirates drove in at least one run. The combined weekend performance gave Pittsburgh a sweep of the series in the Steel City.
The sweep was the latest positive result for the Pirates, who improved to 32-28 on the season. That mark put the team on pace for its first finish above .500 since 2018, according to the report.
Pittsburgh will try to maintain its momentum on the road against the Houston Astros in its next series, while the Twins return home to host the Chicago White Sox.
