Players To Watch: Big 12 Tournament

While playing in Kansas City is about as close to a home game as it gets for the Kansas Jayhawks, they’ll need a big time performance out of their sophomore point guard if they hope to capture yet another Big 12 Tournament championship.

Who else needs to perform at a high level for their team to make a run? Keep reading below to find out.

Frank Mason III, Kansas: With Perry Ellis still sidelined by injury, Mason’s importance is bigger than ever. He’s the one who controls the Jayhawks’ pace, spacing and offensive rhythm. In addition to getting his teammates involved like usual, Mason must look for his own shot as he is more than capable of doing.

Buddy Hield, Oklahoma: Hield was named Big 12 Player of the Year, and for good reason. Not only is he a dynamic offensive talent from all three levels, but he can affect the game defensively as well. If he continues his dominance in the Big 12 Tournament, Oklahoma has a clear path to the final game and definitely has a chance to finish the job once there.

Rico Gathers, Baylor: Easily one of the most physical players in the country, and certainly the most physical in the Big 12, Gathers has to be one of the more under valued talents in the nation. He’s the key for Baylor’s mid-to-late season surge and could be a huge factor for the Bears in the tournament.

Le’Bryan Nash, Oklahoma State: Sure, Oklahoma State is probably safe right now for the NCAA Tournament, but a win over the rival Sooners in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament would surely make Selection Sunday a bit more relaxing for the Cowboys. If they have any chance of doing that, or even to go further in the tournament, Nash will be the key.
