Players to Watch: Big East Tournament

The Big East Conference Tournament is always one of the most exciting postseason events, but it just doesn’t have the same flavor as it used to. That doesn’t mean this year’s edition can’t be equally exciting though.

With top seeded Villanova being the prohibitive favorite, people are wondering who else could make a run towards the title? Well, we’ve got you covered.

Darrun Hilliard II, Villanova: While we’ve spent much of the season talking about Nova’s balance on the offensive side of the ball, Hilliard II is the horsepower behind their engine. His ability to score from all three levels, and completely within the Wildcats’ system, is what makes Villanova the favorite in this tournament.

LaDontae Henton, Providence: The Big East’s leading scorer, Henton can take over any game at any given time. If his offensive production continues on its current pace, and works in tandem with with Kris Dunn at the point guard spot, Providence could be a trendy pick to take out Villanova in the semi’s.

D’Angelo Harrison, St. John’s: Ah yes, my preseason Big East Player of the Year. Harrison is still one of the best scorers in the country, particularly in the Big East, but he’s got a tough task in trying to match Henton when the two teams match up on Wednesday. If the Red Storm have a chance to make a run, it’s going to be on the back on Harrison, and his ability to make plays for himself and others.

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Georgetown: It feels like a shame how under the radar Georgetown has flown, finishing second in the Big East standings. If the Hoyas have a chance at taking home the conference tournament title, it will be on the back of Smith-Rivera’s offensive creativity.
