Most Profitable NFL Teams So Far This Season

Philadelphia Eagles

Mediocrity has been one of the biggest storylines throughout the NFL so far this season. With so many teams that have hovered around the .500 mark both straight up and against the record, there is only a handful of teams that have been consistently reliable as betting options throughout this year. Here is a look at the most profitable NFL teams to bet on so far this season.

Philadelphia Eagles

A case could easily be made for the Eagles as one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season. Philadelphia owns the league’s best record straight up at 10-1. They also own the NFL’s best record against the spread with a 9-2-0 record. Second-year quarterback Carson Wentz has led the league’s highest scoring offense while the Eagles defense ranks third in the NFL. With an 81.8-percent cover rate and a plus-10.1 ATS plus-minus, Philadelphia has clearly been the most profitable team in the NFL so far this season.

Minnesota Vikings

A case could also be made for Minnesota as one of the NFL’s biggest surprises after they have strung together nine straight victories to improve to 9-2 straight up this season. The fact that the Vikings have excelled with Case Keenum at quarterback and without rookie running back Dalvin Cook makes their accomplishments that much more impressive. Minnesota enters Week 13 with the league’s second-best record against the spread at 8-3-0. The Vikings schedule is about to get toughest with back-to-back road games against the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers so it will be interesting to see if they can keep it up following an excellent run as a profitable team to bet on so far this season.

New England Patriots

It wasn’t that long ago critics were openly questioned following a 2-2 start to the season. However, the Patriots have strung together seven straight wins to improve to 9-2 straight up while becoming one of the most reliable teams to bet on against the spread. New England covered as a 16.5-point favorite against the Miami Dolphins in Week 12 and has now won three in a row by at least 18 points. The Patriots are 7-4-0 against the spread this season, which is tied for the third-best mark in the NFL ATS this season. Now that they have found their stride it will be interesting to see if New England can continue to dominate opponents and legitimately challenge Philadelphia and Minnesota among the league’s most profitable teams to bet on.

Houston Texans

As bad as the Houston Texans have been in reality, they’ve been an excellent team in terms betting. That’s because they are 7-4 ATS on the season. The latest “win” came on Monday Night Football when they lost by seven to the Baltimore Ravens but covered the 7.5-point spread.

The Texans have done well against the spread because they have been overlooked multiple times. Not much was expected of them when Deshaun Watson got in the lineup in Week 2 but that spurred on three straight covers. And again, with Watson out now, not much was expected of them but they have covered in back-to-back weeks with Tom Savage under center. They’ve also had a couple of close calls too, including Week 4 at Kansas City when they lost by eight but had a chance to tie the game. And also in Week 9 at home to Indianapolis when they lost by six but were on the goal line as time expired.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams have experienced an incredible turnaround in their first year under head coach Sean McVay. After years of mediocrity under Jeff Fisher, Los Angeles has transitioned in to a legitimate contender in the NFC with an 8-3 record straight up this season. The Rams have the same ATS record as the Patriots this season at 7-4-0 and they rank second in the league to only Philadelphia in terms of ATS plus-minus. Los Angeles will play three of their final four games on the road and still have a home date against the Eagles left on their schedule. It will be interesting to see whether or not the Rams are able to finish strong enough to remain among the league’s most profitable teams to close out the season.
