Projecting The Highest Scoring Teams In English Premier League Next Season

Van Gaal's side should be one of the most potent this season.

The Premier League season is right around the corner and as a fantasy player, you want to be looking at the teams that are expected to be the most productive next season. Drafting players from low-scoring, listless teams is a recipe for disaster (unless we’re talking goalkeepers). With that in mind, here is a look at the teams we think will lead the Premier League in goal scoring this season.

Manchester City

City finished as the top scoring team in the Premier League for the third time in the last four seasons in 2014-15, so it is no surprise they are listed as the favorites to lead the way again. Sergio Aguero has been talked about a lot in transfer rumors after leading the Premier League with 26 goals last season but if he stays put, there is absolutely no reason to doubt a City attack that he will feature in along with Raheem Sterling and David Silva. City certainly has no shortage of offensive weapons up front and they should have no problem scoring goals as they look to close the gap at the top and challenge for a Premier League title this season.

Chelsea

For all of the talk about how Chelsea is bound to fall off this season, there really isn’t much evidence to support it as Jose Mourinho’s side is potentially stronger than it was a year ago when it topped the Premier League table for a record 274 days. Chelsea lost only four games in all competitions thanks in big part due to their offense with Eden Hazard emerging along with key offseason additions like Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas up front. Costa became only the fourth player in Chelsea’s history to reach 20 goals as he hit that mark to finish third in league scoring while Hazard wasn’t too far behind with 14 markers. The Blues kept last year’s roster largely intact and upgraded the No. 2 striker position with the addition of Radamel Falcao. The ceiling is high for Chelsea this season and there is no real reason to expect a major drop off after last year’s dominance.

Arsenal

Consistency will be the key for an Arsenal club that definitely has potential. The Gunners’ formidable offense looked even better when Olivier Giroud returned after missing the first few months of the season. They could very well challenge City for the league scoring title this season. Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla represent an absolutely stacked offensive cast. They finished with 71 goals last season and should be stronger from the get-go this time around, so look for Arsenal to put up some big scoring numbers this season.

Manchester United

Last season, Wayne Rooney became the first player in Premier League history to score 10 or more goals in 11 consecutive seasons as he paced United with 12 goals. Rooney will be even more important this season with Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao gone, but he should have more than enough support. He’ll be playing with Pedro and Memphis Depay in front of a loaded midfield that will feature Juan Mata, Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera. More is expected out of Louis van Gaal’s side after they managed just 62 goals last season. The offense should be a strong point this time around.

Liverpool

Tottenham, Everton and Southampton deserve honorable mention on this list but it’s hard to take any of those teams over Liverpool as the final pick. This may seem like a surprise team to include in the list as they only had 52 goals last season but the offense should be more fluid in 2015-16. Christian Benteke should provide a spark up front and with Adam Lallana, James Milner and Jordan Henderson behind him, there is plenty of firepower in the Reds attack. Liverpool registered the third-most shots on target last season and they had some bad luck that it didn’t translate into more goals. After reloading up front, their total should improve this season.
