Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers recently shared that his decision to declare for the NFL Draft instead of returning to the University of Texas for a final collegiate season was driven by a desire to preserve meaningful relationships within the Longhorns program.

Ewers, who played a pivotal role as the starting quarterback for Texas, faced significant interest from the collegiate level to remain in Austin for another season. However, despite attractive opportunities, he opted to make the jump to the professional ranks. In a statement, Ewers noted that he felt continuing at Texas could affect the team dynamic and his personal relationships within the program, factors that weighed heavily on his decision-making process.

“It came down to not wanting to disrupt the relationships I’ve built over the years,” Ewers said. “I felt it was the right time to make the move and allow the next group of players to lead.”

During his time with the Longhorns, Ewers developed a strong rapport with teammates and coaches, guiding the team through a competitive college football landscape. His leadership on and off the field contributed to a successful stint at Texas, where he was recognized for his arm talent, football IQ, and composure in high-pressure situations.

Ewers’ transition to the NFL marks a significant step in his football career. Selected by the Miami Dolphins, he enters the league with high expectations and an established record of performance at the collegiate level. As he begins his professional journey, Ewers acknowledged the importance of his time at Texas and the lasting impact it had on him.

“Texas helped shape the player and person I am today,” he added. “It was a tough call, but ultimately, I felt it was best for me and for the program to move forward.”

With Ewers now part of the NFL, attention turns to how he will adapt to the professional game and what role he will play in the Dolphins organization moving forward.
