The Las Vegas Raiders are set to acquire veteran cornerback Taron Johnson from the Buffalo Bills in a trade that will also involve a swap of late-round draft picks, according to a source familiar with the agreement. In the deal, the Raiders will send a sixth-round draft choice to the Bills and receive Johnson along with a seventh-round pick in return, effectively moving down one round on the final day of the draft in order to add an experienced defensive back to their secondary.

Johnson has spent his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, where he developed a reputation as a tough, physical defender in the secondary. While specific recent statistics and contract details were not immediately available, he has primarily been used as an inside cornerback, often matching up against slot receivers and contributing in run support. His style of play has been marked by aggressive tackling and a willingness to be involved near the line of scrimmage.

For Las Vegas, the move signals an effort to strengthen the cornerback group with a proven veteran presence. The Raiders have been searching for greater consistency and depth in the defensive backfield, and Johnson’s experience in a playoff-tested defense could be viewed as an asset. His background in a system that has regularly ranked among the league’s more competitive defenses may help him transition into the Raiders’ scheme and bring added versatility to their coverage packages.

From Buffalo’s standpoint, the trade provides a modest boost in draft capital flexibility while moving a veteran player whose role may have been affected by roster considerations, contract structure, or the development of younger defensive backs. By acquiring a sixth-round pick and sending out a seventh-rounder with Johnson, the Bills gain a slightly improved position late in the draft, which can be used to add depth or address specific needs on the roster.

Official confirmation of the trade, as well as any corresponding roster moves or comments from team officials, had not been announced at the time of the report. Once finalized, the transaction will mark a notable shift for both teams: the Raiders adding an established cornerback to help stabilize their secondary, and the Bills adjusting their defensive backfield while modestly improving their draft position on the final day of the selection process.
