The Los Angeles Rams acquired defensive end Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in a blockbuster deal finalized June 1, sending a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, a 2029 third-round pick and edge rusher Jared Verse to Cleveland, according to the report.
The move arrived on a day that also included news surrounding an A.J. Brown trade and the de-facto retirement of Russell Wilson, the report said. The Rams added a player described as a future Hall of Famer and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year to a roster that includes the reigning offensive Most Valuable Player, Matthew Stafford, making Los Angeles the first team to field that pairing since the 1970 merger, according to the report.
Rams general manager Les Snead pushed aggressively for the deal as the club chases a Super Bowl in the current season, the report said. Los Angeles had cleared cap space and built through the draft in recent years, leaving the roster with several low-cost stars on rookie deals — including Puka Nacua on offense and a defensive line group featuring Verse, Byron Young, Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske.
The team’s recent roster moves and spending context were noted in the report: Los Angeles signed Davante Adams last offseason, traded a first-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for Trent McDuffie and signed McDuffie to a four-year, $124 million extension, and added corner Jaylen Watson. The Rams were 25th in projected cash spending for 2026 before the Garrett trade after ranking 32nd in 2023 and 31st in both 2024 and 2025, according to the report.
The Browns, who had previously been led by general manager Andrew Berry in insisting trading “career Brown” Garrett would be “wasting breath,” received draft capital and Jared Verse in return. The report says Cleveland views those assets as better aligned with a competitive window two to three years away.
