Rams and Goff Talk Contract, No Talks Yet for McVay and More

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Jared Goff is getting a new contract at some point. At what point that is and the size of that contract is the real question. With so many players they’re looking to sign long term, the Los Angeles Rams have no urgency to work up a deal for Goff, even though his fellow 2016 first round quarterback, Carson Wentz, has already pocketed a huge deal. Still, there is apparently a timeline in place for talks. Frankly, if Goff chills out and takes the Rams to another Super Bowl, and wins it this time, he’ll be the richest quarterback in NFL history.

McVay and Rams not talking new contract

To say the Los Angeles Rams have gotten good value out of their current contract with head coach Sean McVay is an understatement. McVay completely flipped the script in L.A. after Jeff Fisher’s disastrous head coaching stint and took the Rams to the Super Bowl in just his second year. There’s no official total, but McVay reportedly makes $4 million a year and is still under contract for the next three seasons. There’s no way the team lets him walk anytime soon, but there’s also no urgency to up his price tag. It’s not like he’s going to hold out.

Jaguars fine Telvin Smith for skipping minicamp

In spite of the fact that linebacker Telvin Smith made it clear he’s stepping away from football in 2019 to deal with personal issues, the Jacksonville Jaguars have still decided to fine him. In this case, $88,650 for missing the team’s mandatory minicamp.
