Real Madrid has imposed fines of €500,000 on each of Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni following a training-ground altercation, the report says.
The incident occurred at the end of a training session and resulted in Valverde being taken to hospital with a cut to his forehead. He was later diagnosed with a cranioencephalic trauma and has been ruled out of this weekend’s Clásico against Barcelona, per the report.
Valverde said in a social media post that no punches were thrown, adding that he struck a table during the encounter and sustained a small cut that required a hospital visit, the report says.
The fight followed another episode the previous day, and Madrid had already begun disciplinary proceedings into both players, according to the report. The club said both players expressed deep regret, apologized to one another and to the club, teammates, coaching staff and fans, and made themselves available to accept whatever sanction the club deemed appropriate.
Given those circumstances, Real Madrid decided to impose the financial penalties of €500,000 on each player and to conclude the corresponding internal procedures, the report says.
Per the report, Tchouaméni returned to training on Friday, while Valverde remained absent from practice as he recovered from the head injury. Madrid enter the matchweek knowing they must win to prevent Barcelona from being crowned La Liga champion, the report adds.
