Top MLS Performers: Wondolowski Keeps Shining For Fantasy Owners

Wondolowski was one of the best choices at the forward position this past week.

The San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders took care of business in sound fashion this past week with both teams earning 2-0 victories. Meanwhile, the Montreal Impact provided the most shocking result of the week with a 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake. Here is a quick look at the top MLS fantasy performers from this past weekend.

GK: David Bingham, San Jose

Bingham did it all for the Earthquakes in their 2-0 win over the Columbus Crew as he managed to stop all five shots he faced in order to secure the clean sheet in the victory. No netminder was busier in a shutout win than Bingham and that allowed him to secure the best fantasy stat line for goalkeepers this week. Only Seattle’s Stefan Frei nearly matching him with five saves in a clean sheet win over Vancouver but a winning tackle was the difference between the two. Bingham’s effort was quite impressive as the Crew entered having scored 15 goals in their first nine games of the season before getting blanked by the Earthquakes. Honorable Mention: Stefan Frei, Seattle; Evan Bush, Montreal

D: Jermaine Taylor, Houston

Taylor was dominant at the defensive end of the pitch for Houston in their win over the Portland Timbers as he intercepted eight different passes, blocked two shots, made two winning tackles and earned an assist in the 3-1 win. The Dynamo defender really stepped up in the win and Taylor showed his ability to contribute at both ends with the assist in a game. His stat line would have looked even better if Houston was able to clinch the clean sheet in the win but Fanendo Adi’s goal in the 48th minute eliminated that possibility. Honorable Mention: Jamison Olave, Real Salt Lake; Jordan Stewart, San Jose; London Woodberry, New England

M: Andres Romero, Montreal

Romero played a starring role in Montreal’s surprising 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake that seemed to catch even the Impact fans off guard. Put it this way: the Impact had won a single game the entire season prior to this and had managed to net just three goals in their previous five games before scoring four against Real Salt Lake.

Romero scored twice on as many shots on target including the match-winning goal. He was all over the field for Montreal in an absolutely dominant win and they will undoubtedly look to lean on him in the same fashion moving forward.

M: Michael Bradley, Toronto

Bradley scored Toronto’s only goal in a 1-1 tie with the New England Revolution and he finished the game with three shots on target and a couple of winning tackles. Bradley and Sebastian Giovinco have established themselves as two of the strongest attacking assets for Toronto. Bradley will need more performances like this if they are going to finally find a way to make the playoffs this season. Honorable Mention: Jeff Larentowicz, Chicago; Matias Perez Garcia, San Jose; Felipe, New York Red Bulls

F: Will Bruin, Houston

Bruin was the highest-scoring fantasy forward of the week following up a decent Week 10 performance with a monster game against the Portland Timbers. Bruin scored two goals on as many shots on target against the Timbers to slightly edge out San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski as the top fantasy forward performer of the week. He’s worth keeping an eye on for future weeks as the Dynamo have been rolling offensively. Their 16 goals scored are the second most in the MLS this season.

F: Chris Wondolowski, San Jose

Wondolowski was limited to one goal against the Columbus Crew but he stuffed the stat sheet in other categories, including three shots on target, a couple of blocked shots, winning tackles and a bonus for scoring the match-winning goal. Wondolowski has been very consistent over the last three weeks and that has justified his substantial price tag. Honorable Mention: Chad Barrett, Seattle; Juan Aguedelo, New England, David Accam, Chicago
