Return of Mookie Betts after Rib Injury

You wouldn’t know from looking at Mookie Betts at the plate during the Dodgers’ 4-2 loss on Sunday that he had just returned from a 15-game absence due to a fractured right rib. Betts went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored in the Dodgers’ first game with their revamped top of the order, Trea Turner at second and Freddie Freeman at third. This was true even though his rib is still broken.

He wants to be there, and we don’t see anything that may prevent it from happening, said Roberts. Betts was given the freedom to choose his own comeback date after suffering the injury in June after an outfield collision with Cody Bellinger. He recovered from his routine much better than anticipated on Saturday, and even though he still felt a little uncomfortable, he felt ready to play in the series finale against the Padres on Sunday. However, he gave it his all on Sunday, and the Dodgers will keep giving him fresh chances to play second base.
