Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has expressed his support for manager Arne Slot and the club’s recent transfer decisions, emphasizing the importance of a long-term vision despite the team’s struggles during their Premier League title defense.

Hughes, who joined the club’s executive structure in 2025, addressed recent criticism surrounding Liverpool’s squad changes following their championship-winning campaign. With the team facing challenges in maintaining its top-tier form, questions have arisen over the effectiveness of summer signings and the direction of the club’s recruitment strategy.

Speaking to local media, Hughes reiterated the club’s commitment to a structured approach in building the squad. “We believe in the process and the people we have in place,” Hughes said. “Change is part of football, and transitions require time. We remain confident that Arne is the right person to lead this group forward.”

Under Slot, who succeeded former manager Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool has seen several changes both on and off the pitch. A number of senior players departed during the last transfer window, replaced by a blend of younger talent and experienced professionals. The integration of these players has been met with mixed results, as the team works to regain consistency in domestic competition.

Hughes acknowledged that immediate results have been inconsistent but stressed that strategic planning remains the foundation of the club’s approach. “This club has always had a strong identity, and we are working to evolve it while staying true to our core values. Arne understands that, and he has our trust.”

Despite challenges in the current campaign, Hughes pointed to positive signs in the team’s performances and development. He also confirmed that the club would continue to support Slot with the necessary resources to shape the squad according to his footballing philosophy.

As Liverpool aims to stabilize their form in the second half of the season, club leadership remains unified in its belief in both coaching and recruitment strategies. Fans will look for continued progress as the team adapts to a new era under Slot’s guidance.
