The Spiders are hoping for a better outcome after their 86-66 loss to the Hampton Pirates in their last matchup. Hampton’s 0.607 effective field goal percentage was their biggest advantage over Richmond, who had a mark of 0.481. The Pirates’ mark was above their season average of 0.432, while the Spiders’ was below their season average of 0.564. Nathan Cayo led Richmond in scoring with 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting.

The last time the Hoyas took the court, they beat the Campbell Fighting Camels, 93-85. The Hoyas knocked down 20 of their 24 free throws (83.3 percent) and held the Fighting Camels to an offensive rebounding percentage of 16.2 (below their season average of 23.5). Trey Mourning led Georgetown in scoring with 27 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field.

The Hoyas won the sole game against the Spiders last season, 82-76. The Hoyas made 22 of their 26 free throws (84.6 percent) and had a much better offensive rebounding percentage (34.6 vs. 27.8).

This game should be a matchup of contrasting paces. Dating back to the 2017-18 season, Georgetown has preferred an up-and-down style of play (39th in possessions per game), while Richmond has been more half-court-oriented (251st in possessions per game). Ball security should be an advantage for the Spiders. They rank 58th at avoiding errors (turnover percentage of 16.9 percent). Conversely, the Hoyas have forced the 99th-fewest turnovers in the nation (opponents’ turnover percentage of 17.7 percent).
