RJ Barrett and the New York Knicks are completing his contract deal

According to many rumors, RJ Barrett and the New York Knicks are nearing a nine-figure contract deal. ESPN first the news of the deal, and Bill Duffy, Barrett’s agent, confirmed it to the media on Monday night.

As the third overall choice in the 2019 NBA Draft, Barrett was expected to sign a rookie deal before perhaps declaring restricted free agency the following year. Instead, a four-year rookie agreement for up to $120 million is allegedly close to being agreed upon by him and the Knicks.

The rumored talks between the Knicks and Utah Jazz about a trade focused around All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell might be affected if the deal goes through. Barrett’s extension would make it more expensive for the Jazz to ask for his inclusion in any prospective multi-player deal in the short- and long-term since it would increase the trade value of his contract to the average of the extension and his rookie deal. Utah and New York were on the phone with Barrett as well.
