Robert Lewandowski will leave Barcelona at the end of the season when his contract expires, the report says. The announcement ends a four-year spell with the LaLiga champions for the 37-year-old striker.
ESPN revealed earlier this year that Barcelona were prepared to extend Lewandowski’s deal, albeit on reduced terms, but the report says the player has opted to move on. The club and player will part ways after a tenure that included multiple domestic titles.
Sources have told ESPN that Lewandowski has attracted interest from clubs in Europe, Saudi Arabia and the United States, including Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, per the report. He will have the chance to bid farewell to supporters on Sunday when Barcelona host Real Betis at Spotify Camp Nou in the final home game of the campaign, the report says.
In a message posted on Instagram, Lewandowski reflected on his time in Barcelona and said the period had been full of challenges and hard work. He described the chapter as complete, thanked those he met at the club and extended particular gratitude to president Joan Laporta for the opportunity to play for Barça, the report says.
The report notes that Lewandowski has been used intermittently this season, alternating the No. 9 role with Ferran Torres, yet remained effective in front of goal, scoring 18 times as Barcelona won LaLiga and the Spanish Supercopa. His contributions were a part of the club’s title successes this campaign, the report says.
Since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022 for €45 million, the report says Lewandowski has scored 119 goals in 191 appearances for Barcelona. During his four seasons in Spain he has helped the club win LaLiga three times, along with three Supercopa titles and one Copa del Rey, per the report.
