Robert Thomas Back for Game 6, Charlotte Wins the Calder Cup, and More

The most prestigious trophy in sports could be awarded to a first-time recipient today. The St. Louis Blues are up 3-2 on the Boston Bruins, and they can hoist the Stanley Cup for the first time at the conclusion of Game 6 tonight. St. Louis will be at home for Game 6, and a win will set off rapturous celebrations that will last well until Monday.

St. Louis will have Robert Thomas in the line-up for the first time since Game 1 tonight. Thomas has been sidelined with a wrist injury, but he has healed enough to be cleared for Game 6. The 19-year-old will provide some needed fresh legs in what has been a grueling series.

We did have one trophy awarded last night. The Charlotte Checkers knocked off the Chicago Wolves to clinch the AHL’s Calder Cup on Saturday night. It only took Charlotte five games to knock off Chicago and win the franchise its first Calder Cup.

Off the ice, St. Louis Blues winger Vladimir Tarasenko had some big news. Tarasenko and his wife Yana celebrated the birth of their third child, and Tarasenko hailed his wife for giving birth during one of the days off in this series.

Unfortunately for Boston, defenseman Matt Grzelcyk will not be in the lineup tonight. Grzelcyk has been in the concussion protocol since a hit from Oskar Sundqvist in Game 2 of this series, and Bruce Cassidy announced that he is yet to be cleared. Karson Kuhlman will take his place in the lineup tonight. This will be Kuhlman’s first action since Boston’s first round series with Toronto.
