Neither nation qualified for the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup. Wales interim coach Craig Bellamy also recorded a 1-1 draw in his recent friendly against World Cup-bound Ghana and will use the Bucharest game to continue planning for the future. Romania are in UEFA Nations League B and Hagi is expected to use the fixture to experiment ahead of Euro 2028 qualifying campaigns.
Team news from the hosts lists a fully fit Romania squad. Wales will be missing Jordan James, Rubin Colwill, Mark Harris and Liam Cullen. Hagi made changes for his first game in charge and saw substitute Louis Munteanu score the equaliser against Georgia, while Ianis Hagi operated in a creative role behind the striker.
Wales continue to search for central striking options. A 33-year-old Kieffer Moore started against Ghana, illustrating the issue, while Bellamy has several wide options including Daniel James, Harry Wilson and Brennan Johnson. Lewis Koumas, 20, impressed after coming on against Ghana, scoring and showing the ability to operate centrally despite spending the season on loan from Liverpool at Hull City mostly as a wide player. Romania’s Radu Dragusin will offer Premier League‑level competition for any Welsh forward.
