Pitcher Ryan Weiss has agreed to a one-year contract with the Houston Astros that will guarantee him $2.6 million, according to sources. The 27-year-old right-hander most recently played in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), where he further developed his skills and showcased his potential on the mound.

Weiss, who originally entered professional baseball in the United States, elected to take his career overseas in search of more opportunities and playing time. His stint in the KBO allowed him to make key adjustments to his approach, including mechanics and pitch selection, making him an intriguing option for Major League Baseball teams looking for pitching depth.

With this signing, the Astros are adding a versatile arm who could contribute either as a starter or long reliever, depending on team needs during the regular season. The deal reflects Houston’s continuing effort to bolster its pitching roster following recent injuries and departures through free agency.

While specific performance statistics from Weiss’s KBO tenure have not been publicly disclosed, scouts and analysts point to improved command and consistency over multiple innings as positive indicators of his development abroad. This contract represents a return to MLB competition for Weiss, who has previously spent time in the minor league systems of other American clubs.

The Astros have a strong recent track record of integrating international players into their pitching staff. Signing a player like Weiss reflects the organization’s strategy of identifying and investing in talent beyond conventional MLB pipelines. If Weiss can translate his KBO success to the majors, he may prove to be a valuable addition to the Astros’ rotation or bullpen options in 2026.

Weiss is expected to join the team for spring training, where he will have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster. The coming months will determine how he fits into manager Joe Espada’s plans for the pitching staff.
