Seahawks News: Josh Gordon Claimed Off Waivers

Josh Gordon is getting a fresh start. After being released by the New England Patriots on Thursday, the 28-year-old wide receiver was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks a day later. Ian Rapoport first broke the news on Twitter.

This puts an end to Gordon’s time in New England, where he had 20 catches for 287 yards and one touchdown through six games before he was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. It was widely speculated that the former Browns star’s days with the Patriots were numbered once the team acquired Mohamed Sanu via trade.

Gordon had 720 receiving yards and six touchdowns with the Patriots in 2018 after he was traded from Cleveland, however he stepped away from football to focus on his mental health in December. He was also facing another suspension from the NFL for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell lifted his suspension in August.

Gordon gets another opportunity with a change of scenery and should benefit from Russell Wilson’s MVP campaign. If he can get back to his 2013 form when he posted 1,600 receiving yards, then the NFC West, and the rest of the league, should be on notice.
