Seattle Mariners at Detroit Tigers Betting Preview 05/11/18

The Detroit Tigers will play host to the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET and this AL matchup will be televised on either RTNW or FSDT.

Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers Odds

Vegas is listing Seattle (-130) as the favorite over Detroit (+120). The total stands at nine runs and bettors can wager on the over for -120 and the under for +100. Gamblers can also bet on the game’s runline with the most recent odds coming in at Mariners -1.5 runs (+115) and Tigers 1.5 runs (-135).

The Mariners have gone 21-15 SU this year and are 21-14 against the spread (ATS). They’ve accumulated 6.1 units for moneyline bettors over the early portions of the season and 6.3 units ATS. The Tigers, on the other hand, are 15-21 SU and 20-16 ATS. The team has lost 3.3 units for moneyline bettors while earning 0.5 units ATS.

Tigers games have an over/under record of 15-20-1 thus far in 2018. Seattle has been a decent over bet with a total record of 21-14.

The southpaw Marco Gonzales will get the nod for the visiting Mariners. Gonzales is 3-2 with a 5.19 ERA and 38 strikeouts. He has yet to face the Tigers this year and did not record a start against them in 2017, either.

The Tigers are sending lefty Matthew Boyd (1-3, 3.00 ERA) to the mound. Boyd has 26 punchouts and nine walks to his credit, as well as a 1.06 WHIP. Boyd did not record a start against the Mariners in 2017.

Detroit’s pitchers have yielded 4.6 runs per game overall this season as a unit. The club’s starting pitching staff has an ERA of 3.96, a WHIP of 1.24 and a strikeouts-per-nine of 7.2. The bullpen has a 4.70 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 8.6 K/9.

Detroit’s offense is putting up 4.4 runs per outing, including 3.7 per game over its last 10 games and 4.4 per game over its last five. The team has slashed .289/.345/.487 over its last five contests and is 2-3 SU during that span.

Jeimer Candelario has helped lead the Tigers’ offense this year with five home runs, 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Candelario performed well at home in 2017, slashing .386/.478/.579 over 67 plate appearances (his total season line was .283/.359/.425).

In the visiting dugout, Seattle’s pitching staff allowed 4.6 runs per game and its starters own a 4.87 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 8.82 K/9. The bullpen has managed an ERA of 4.32, along with a K/9 of 10.46.

The Mariners offense has slashed .261/.327/.436 on its way to 4.6 runs scored per game in 2018, including 4.9 runs per game over the team’s last 10 games and 5.4 per game over the team’s last five contests (3-2 SU).

Seattle’s offense has been spearheaded by Mitch Haniger. Haniger is slashing .297/.384/.609 with 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He didn’t perform especially well against lefties last season, maintaining a slash line of .250/.289/.446 across 97 plate appearances (compared to his overall season line of .282/.352/.491).

The Mariners just got a 9-3 victory over the Blue Jays, while the Tigers are coming off of a 5-4 loss against the Rangers.
