Are the Seattle Seahawks Now the Favorites to Repeat?

Super Bowl Odds: The Seattle Seahawks have won four straight and seven of their last eight and look like the team that won the Super Bowl last season. Are the Seahawks now the team to beat and are they the current Super Bowl favorite? Let’s take a look at the Seahawks and current Super Bowl odds.

Super Bowl Odds

Four teams are basically co-favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV. Those teams are the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos. Each team is listed with odds of about 4-to-1. The Seahawks have a record of 10-4 heading into Week 16 which is tied for second overall in the NFC behind the Arizona Cardinals. The Patriots and Broncos are 11-3 and tied for first overall in the AFC.

Seahawks Dominating Again on Defense

Seattle has gotten hot in the past couple of months thanks to a defense that is once again dominating the NFL. The Seahawks are second only to the Lions in fewest points allowed this season. They lead the league in fewest yards and fewest passing yards allowed. The team started slowly this season but they have regained their swagger in recent weeks.

“You can’t just expect things to roll over into the next year,” Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright said, “You’ve got to recapture the moment and re-find what makes you successful. It was good that we struggled a little bit, because we were able to find out what the problem was.” In the last four games the Seahawks have allowed a total of 27 points.

Legion of Boom

The Seahawks secondary is once again delivering big hits and stopping opposing passing attacks. The Seahawks lead the league in fewest passing yards allowed this season. The team has one of the top cornerbacks in the league in Richard Sherman and two of the top safeties in the league in Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas.

Home Field Advantage

The Seahawks are now in position to be the #1 seed in the NFC if they can win their final two games against Arizona and St. Louis. They face the Cardinals next week in Arizona in a game that will decide the NFC West. When the Seahawks are at home they are extremely difficult to beat. They are 21-2 in their last 23 home games. The defense dominates at home and the running game gets rolling. The Seahawks now lead the league in rushing yards per game this season. Seattle proved last season that having home field advantage is critical as they won both of their home playoff games including the NFC Championship game against San Francisco.
