Seton Hall Pirates – Georgetown Hoyas Preview – 02.17.2016

It will be a battle between Big East opponents when the Georgetown Hoyas (14-12) welcome the Seton Hall Pirates (17-7) to the Verizon Center. The game gets underway at 9:00 pm ET on Wednesday, Feb. 17 and can be seen on FS1.

The Hoyas lost a winnable game to Providence 75-72 on Saturday. Marcus Derrickson finished with 18 points to lead the team. The Pirates are coming off an 81-75 loss at the hands of Butler on Wednesday. Isaiah Whitehead scored 26 points and recorded 10 assists earning his first double-double of the season.

Angel Delgado and Whitehead have been on a tear over the last five games for the Pirates. Delgado has averaged 15.4 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.0 block during that stretch, while Whitehead has put up 20.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.4 blocks, and 3.8 three-pointers.

This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams. The Pirates won the first game 69-61. Delgado put up a double-double in the victory with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

The Hoyas have gone 14-12 Straight Up (SU) and 13-13 Against The Spread (ATS). In their last 10 games, they are 8-2 ATS. The Hoyas are a phenomenal shooting team from the line with a .757 free throw percentage, one of the highest marks in Division I. Turning to the defensive side, teams have to fight for open shots against the Hoyas, who have one of the best opponent field-goal percentages in the country at .396.

On the other side, Seton Hall has a SU record of 17-7 and an ATS record of 16-7. Seton Hall is one of the better rebounding teams in Division I. The Pirates average 40.2 rebounds per game, making them the 32nd-best team in the country for that category. The Pirates are one of the top defensive teams on the road, essentially shutting down opponents to the tune of 67.8 points allowed per away game. Seton Hall’s defense is one of the top in the nation, with opponents shooting only .403 from the field. One advantage for the Pirates could be Georgetown’s high fouls per game average of 22.9.

The Pirates’ win over Georgetown in their last clash took the head-to-head record to an even 5-5 SU over their most recent meetings. On the other hand, Seton Hall holds the advantage ATS with a record of 6-4. Seton Hall held the edge in field goals, rebounds, and three-pointers one time in the last five game, while Georgetown wasn’t able to do so in that span.
