The San Jose Sharks have added depth to their forward group by acquiring Kiefer Sherwood from the Vancouver Canucks. The transaction, officially announced on January 19, 2026, marks a midseason roster adjustment for two teams navigating a competitive NHL schedule.

Sherwood, a right winger known for his high-energy style and forechecking prowess, brings additional speed and versatility to San Jose’s lineup. While the precise terms of the deal, including any players or draft picks exchanged, have not been disclosed, the move reflects the Sharks’ strategy of bolstering their roster as the season progresses.

Sherwood, 30, has taken a winding path through the league since his professional debut, making appearances with multiple NHL organizations, including the Anaheim Ducks and Nashville Predators, before joining Vancouver. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a hardworking depth player capable of contributing in both offensive and defensive situations. His intensity on the forecheck and willingness to play a physical game make him a useful option for bottom-six forward roles and penalty-killing assignments.

For the Vancouver Canucks, the trade provides an opportunity to recalibrate their own lineup and potentially open space for younger players or address other roster needs. Sherwood had seen limited ice time during his stint in Vancouver, and the move to San Jose may offer him increased playing opportunities as he looks to solidify his role with his new team.

The Sharks, currently working to find consistency in a rebuilding phase, aim to strengthen their roster with experienced players who can contribute immediately. Adding a veteran presence like Sherwood could help in maintaining energy levels across four lines and offering leadership, particularly to younger players.

Sherwood is expected to join the Sharks shortly and may be available for selection in their upcoming games, pending team decisions and travel logistics.
