Showtime Boxing Odds for Saturday

Showtime Boxing Odds

Showtime Boxing Odds Saturday December 10 – Two world title fights headline this Saturday’s Showtime Boxing card, and both fights are getting attention at the sports books.

The IBF world title at 154 pounds will be defended by Jermall Charlo (24-0) as he faces the challenge of rival Julian Williams (22-0-1). The undefeated Charlo is coming off a May defense against Austin Trout that saw him edge the former WBA world champion on the judges’ scorecards. Charlo won the belt in May of 2015 when he stopped veteran Cornelius Bundrage. Jermall has a twin brother, Jermell, who also competes in the 154-pound super-welterweight division and currently holds a fine 28-0 record and the WBC world title.

In Julian WIlliams, Charlo is getting his toughest test to date. Williams is 26 years old and this is his first shot at a world title, and he is coming into the fight snarling with a lot of attitude and confidence. We last saw Williams fight back in March when he stopped Marcello Matano in the seventh round of their bout that also aired on Showtime.

The National Basketball Association regular season is heating up. Check out more here.

The WBA title at 126 pounds is also being contested Saturday as Argentina’s 28-1 champion Jesus Andres Cuellar faces the challenge of veteran former 3-weight class world champion Abner Mares (29-2-1). Cuellar won an interim version of the WBA belt in August of 2013, and he defended that interim title several times before he defeated Vic Darchinyan in June of 2015 to upgrade his interim belt to a full world title. He defended the belt in December of last year, defeating Jonathan Oquendo on the undercard of Showtime’s Daniel Jacobs vs Peter Quillin feature. Cuellar is returning after a layoff of more than a year.

Mares will be looking to prove he is still a top guy. We last saw him in August of last year when he lost to Leo Santa Cruz, so his layoff is in fact longer than that of Cuellar. Back in May of 2013 Mares defeated Daniel Ponce De Leon to take the WBC featherweight title, but he lost it that August to veteran Jhonny Gonzalez. It has been three years since Mares held a world title and he is coming off a failed bid to get back in the title picture against Santa Cruz.
