England travel to Spain with qualification for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in their hands when the teams meet at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix on Friday. Kick-off is 8 p.m. BST (3 p.m. ET, 5 a.m. AEST Saturday), with Ivana Martinčić appointed as referee.
The game will be available on ITV1 and ITV X in the U.K., CBS in the U.S. and Stan Sport in Australia, and live updates can be followed via ESPN, according to broadcast listings.
England arrive unbeaten in Group qualifiers with four wins from four, including victories over Iceland twice, and wins against Ukraine and Spain. A draw or victory in Mallorca would secure England’s place at next summer’s World Cup in Brazil; a defeat would leave qualification scenarios hinging on goal difference or other results.
There are notable absences and late changes in the England squad. Captain Leah Williamson is sidelined by injury and Liverpool captain Grace Fisk has been called into the squad as her replacement. Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating is ruled out with injury and Brighton’s Sophie Baggaley has been added; Hannah Hampton is expected to retain the starting goalkeeper role. Uncapped Freya Godfrey is also in the camp, while Taylor Hinds has withdrawn through injury.
Spain, the defending world champions, need a win to keep their qualification hopes entirely alive heading into the final round of group games. Aitana Bonmatí returns after a lengthy injury layoff and will rejoin Alexia Putellas, Patri Guijarro and Mariona Caldentey in Spain’s midfield and attack. Salma Paralluelo is also cited among Spain’s attacking options.
The match pits Spain’s attacking talent against an England defence that has conceded one goal in their last seven internationals and kept six clean sheets in their last eight games. England beat Spain 1-0 at Wembley in April — a result that remains Spain’s only loss in the group — and the outcome in Mallorca will be decisive for both sides’ paths to Brazil.
