St. John’s Red Storm vs. Georgetown Hoyas Betting Prediction

The Red Storm are trying to rebound after their 61-57 loss to the Providence Friars in their last matchup. One of Providence’s biggest advantages was getting to the charity stripe. They had 25 free throw attempts, while St. John’s had just 10. Bashir Ahmed had a good outing for St. John’s, finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds.

In the Hoyas’ last game, they were blown out by the No. 4 Villanova Wildcats, 97-73. Villanova’s effective field goal percentage was their biggest advantage over Georgetown. The Wildcats had a rate of 0.689 (above their season average of 0.594), while the Hoyas posted a mark of 0.451 (below their season average of 0.522). Jessie Govan had a good game for Georgetown, leading both teams in scoring with 30 points on 10-for-15 shooting.

This has potential to be a sloppy game for the offense of Georgetown. Georgetown ranks 312th in the NCAA in ball protection (turnover percentage of 20.9 percent), while the gambling defense of St. John’s forces the ninth-most turnovers in the NCAA (23.1 percent).

St. John’s comes into the contest with records of 15-16 straight up (SU) and 13-15-1 against the spread (ATS). Of the Red Storm’s 27 games that accepted bets, 14 have finished under the total.

Meanwhile, Georgetown owns records of 15-14 SU and 12-13-1 ATS. Unlike St. John’s, Hoyas games have finished over the projected point total 52.0 percent of the time.

Marvin Clark II has averaged 16.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals over the last five games for St. John’s.

The Hoyas have emerged victorious in both games against the Red Storm this year, including a 93-89 victory the last time these teams met. Georgetown did an excellent job of getting to and converting from the charity stripe (26-34; 76.5 percent). St. John’s, meanwhile, had a better turnover percentage (15.7 vs. 18.3). Despite the loss, Shamorie Ponds was the game’s leading scorer with 33 points.
