The Pittsburgh Steelers have claimed wide receiver Adam Thielen off waivers, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In a corresponding move, the team has waived veteran cornerback Darius Slay. The transaction comes amid ongoing efforts by the Steelers to adjust their roster late in the season.

Thielen, a veteran wide receiver, brings a wealth of experience to Pittsburgh’s receiving corps. Known for his precise route running and steady hands, Thielen has been a productive player throughout his career. Before being claimed by the Steelers, he had most recently been with another NFL team during the 2025 season. Specific statistics from his current campaign were not immediately available, but Thielen’s track record includes multiple 1,000-yard seasons and Pro Bowl appearances.

The Steelers’ decision to bring in Thielen suggests a desire to add depth and experience to an offense that has worked to find consistency. Injuries and inconsistent play have impacted the receiving group this season, and the front office may view Thielen as a stabilizing presence both on and off the field.

To make room on the roster, Pittsburgh waived cornerback Darius Slay. A seasoned defensive back with several years of NFL experience, Slay was signed earlier this season to bolster the secondary. His departure signals a shift in the team’s defensive plans moving forward. The Steelers’ secondary has dealt with various injuries and changes throughout the season, and this latest move may reflect a broader strategy aimed at reconfiguring the defense.

It remains to be seen how quickly Thielen will be integrated into Pittsburgh’s offensive scheme. With only a handful of games remaining in the regular season, timing and familiarity with the playbook will be key factors in how much immediate impact he can have.

The Steelers continue to make roster changes in hopes of strengthening their push through the final stretch of the season.
