Submission Underground 1: Live Results

Welcome to the GetMoreSports results and coverage of Submission Underground, from Portland, OR.

Put together by UFC veteran Chael Sonnen, Submission Underground 1 is headlined by Ronny Markes vs. Vinny Magalhães. Despite a series of competitor withdrawals (Benson Henderson, Kenny Florian and King Mo Lawal), it’s a card with its fair share of interesting match ups.

The event will be competed under the Eddie Bravo Invitational rules (although these shall be contested within a cage), in which submission takes precedent over position. Should the initial eight minute match go to a draw, the bout will enter into overtime.

Should overtime be necessary, the rules then become as follows:

• Competitors flip a coin to decide who goes first
• Competitors choose to start attacking from the back or ‘spiderweb’ position (armbar)
• Competitors take turns to attack from chosen position
• If one competitor submits, and the other does not (opponent escapes), he is declared winner
• If both competitors escape, we move to the next overtime round (maximum 3 overtime rounds)
• If there are no submissions at the end of the three overtime rounds, the competitor with the fastest combined escape time wins the match.

Stay tuned as we update this page throughout the evening.
