Sunday Night Match Up: Giants at Broncos

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Our Sunday night wraps up with a game that probably looked good to the folks at NBC when the schedule was first announced. Now, it looks like a blowout begging to happen as the winless New York Giants (0-5) travel to Sports Authority Field at Mile High to take on the Denver Broncos (3-1).

This game will be the featured SNF game on NBC at 8:30 p.m. EST. I’ll be live blogging it here at GetMoreSports.com so check back and follow along.

The Game: New York Giants at Denver Broncos (-11.5)

O/U: 40.0

The History

The Broncos and Giants have met 12 times, with a dead even record of 6-6.

Back on January 25, 1987, New York and Denver faced off in Super Bowl XXI in Pasadena, Calif. The Giants won 39-20 with a 22 of 25, 268 yard and three touchdown day from MVP Phil Simms. Broncos quarterback John Elway finished 22 of 37 for 304 yards, one touchdown and one interception. It was Elway’s second straight Super Bowl loss.

NEW YORK GIANTS (0-5)

Let’s start with the slick back haired elephant in the room. How much longer are the Giants going to roll with Ben McAdoo as their head coach? The question isn’t if McAdoo will get fired. He’s a dead man walking. The question is, will he survive until the end of the season? I honestly don’t think he will and a blowout loss here could get him out the door before Halloween. This team is a mess.

The offense McAdoo was brought in to fix has been consistently unimpressive and that’s before every single wide receiver on the roster went down with an injury. Not only is Eli Manning without the services of Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall this week, Sterling Shepard has been ruled out too. That means Manning will be throwing to the likes of Roger Lewis, Tavarres King, Travis Rudolph and Ed Eagan. If you know who any of those guys are, you gave birth to them.

It gets worse. The team suspended Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie indefinitely for “violating team rules” that looks a whole lot like just getting pissed off at his shitty coaches. Their injury report is loaded up, with Jonathan Cassillas, Landon Collins, Romeo Okwara, and Olivier Vernon all out. Now, to be fair, Collins is listed as questionable but he hasn’t practiced all week. I don’t see him playing.

DENVER BRONCOS (3-1)

There are two Broncos teams that can show up on any given Sunday. Away Team Denver has an atrocious offense, they turn the ball over and has a quarterback in Trevor Siemian that seems in way over his head. The Home Team Broncos have a solid, consistent offense that can run the balland a quarterback, Trevor Siemian, that regularly finds the open man and moves the chains.

This game, of course, will feature the Home Team Broncos.

Last week, also quarterbacking the Home Team Broncos, Siemian was 16 of 26 for 179 yards and a touchdown. He spread the ball around to six different receivers with tight end A.J. Derby, of all people, leading the pack with four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.

With a competent passing game, home team Broncos were able to run the ball with C.J. Anderson carrying 20 times for 95 yards.

For its part, it doesn’t matter where this defense plays. They held Oakland to just 2-of-12 on third downs two weeks ago, sacked Derek Carr twice (knocking him out of the game) and E.J. Manuel once, forced a turnover and recorded five tackles for a loss.

Cody Latimer and back up quarterback Paxton Lynch are both still out for this game, but since they’re both reserves it should make no difference.

The Pick

I don’t know what the Giants’ offense is going to look like, but I know I’m going to hate watching it. Home Team Broncos will crush this team and, like I said, maybe end Ben McAdoo’s head coaching career a few months early. Broncos 31, Giants 6
