ADCC 2017 Odds

ADCC 2017 Odds – Under 66KG Tournament – The ADCC 2017 Submission Grappling World Championships are this coming weekend in Finland and here we are looking at the odds for the under 66 KG tournament at BetDSI.

The tournament features 16 of the top grapplers in the world today at 145 lbs (66 KG) and the odds-on favorite to win the whole thing again is Brazil’s Rubens Charles. Charles represents Alliance JJ and his academy’s history with the Abu Dhabi Combat Club event goes back to the very beginning. His jiu-jitsu black belt was earned from Ferando Terere, one of the most creative and aggressive ground fighters of the past generation.

The 66KG weight class has a rich history in the ADCC competition, with the revered Royler Gracie winning the division repeatedly in the early days. After Gracie retired the competition was won by Leo Vieira, another Brazilian and a fighter who is still competing in the ADCC today even though he is over 40 years old.

At this point, however, the under 66 KG division’s history has their own chapter called ‘Rubens Charles.’ Charles finished in second place back in the ADCC 2011 competition and he is the two-time defending champion, having won the titles in 2013 and in 2015. A third title here in 2017 would tie him with Gracie, who won three ADCC titles in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

The roster of ADCC under 66 KG alumni will always be topped by Royler Gracie, who is now in his 50s and long retired. In 2003, the legendary Gracie lost in ADCC competition to upstart Eddie Bravo, paving the way for a tournament title for Leo Vieira. Vieira may be leaving the 2017 field to face Chael Sonnen in a superfight which means another fighter will get a chance in this year’s tournament field.

Charles is already a highly decorated JJ artist, but a third title in the ADCC would lift his legacy to among the very elite of the grappling world. The only open question for Charles is whether, at 37 years old, father time will come knocking on his door.

America’s best hope for glory in this weight class comes in the form of Justin Rader, who owns a 3rd place finish in ADCC back in 2013. The rest of the field is stacked with talent and includes six other fighters from Brazil. Last year’s runner-up, Bruno Frazzato, is at +700 as is Augusto Mendes. Fellow countryman Marcio Andre at +250 represents the closest threat to Charles’ ADCC run.

Below are the odds for the field as it stands today. Do not forget to check BETDSI for the only site carrying odds on the ADCC 2017.
