AMIENS

The Unicorns are maybe newcomers, but in the last couple of weeks, they were playing exceptionally well like they are in the Ligue 1 for years. They are undefeated in the previous six rounds of the French Ligue 1, recording three victories and three draws in a process, scoring nine goals and conceding three in a return. The Unicorns have managed to keep the clean sheet in those three victories, including a brilliant 3:0 win over Lille last Monday, while they drew three times with the identical 1:1 final outcome. Meanwhile, Amiens has beaten Troyes on the road, 2:1, in the French Coupe de la Ligue Round of 32, and they will play against Tours in the next round.

After the first 14 rounds of the French Ligue 1, The Unicorns are sitting at the 10th spot of the table with 18 points, a 13:14 goal difference, and a 5-3-6 record. They are four points ahead of Nice at the 18th spot and just five points behind Nantes at the fifth position. On the home soil, they have earned 10 points with an 8:5 goal difference, and a 3-1-2 record, while on the road they have recorded two wins, two draws, and four losses with a 5:9 goal difference, but they are unbeaten for three matches in a row away from home. The Unicorns bagged at least one goal in their previous six Ligue 1 games, while 80% of their matches this season had under 2.5 goals in total.

In the previous round of the French Ligue 1, Amiens has recorded a 2:0 victory over the bottom side Metz on the road when they took 11 shots on goal, and just two on target, but it was enough for a couple of goals and quite important three points. The Unicorns took the lead in the 29th minute when the striker Moussa Konate redeemed for all his misses against Monaco in the Round 13 when he had a few great opportunities to get his team a victory against one of the best teams in France. In the 66th minute of the game, Amiens doubled the lead when the midfielder Bongani Zungu scored his first goal of the season. Although Metz took 21 shots on Amiens’ goal, they couldn’t find the net, and in the end, The Unicorns earned a well-deserved victory.

The 24-year old striker Moussa Konate is the team’s leading scorer with four goals in 12 appearances this season, while the 26-year old winger Gael Kakuta and the 23-year old midfielder Harisson Manzala added two goals each. Gael Kakuta is the team’s best assist-maker with four dishes in 13 appearances thus far, while the striker Lacina Traore, who’s loaned from Monaco, added two assists to his name in seven matches this season.

The manager Christophe Pelissier is certainly pleased with the team’s current form, and his main job is to try to maintain it in the following weeks. For the next match against Dijon, he can field his best eleven, as there are no injury problems among Amiens’ squad.

DIJON

Just like their next opponent, The Mustards are in a tremendous form in the last couple of weeks, as they have won four out of their last five Ligue 1 matches, beating Toulouse (3:1), Troyes (3:1), Nantes (1:0), and Metz (2:1), while they were beaten by Nice on the road, 1:0, in the Round 12. Meanwhile, they have lost to Rennes in front of the home fans, 2:1, in the French Coupe de la Ligue Round of 32.

After the first 14 rounds of the French Ligue 1 The Mustards are laying at the 12th spot with 18 points, a 20:23 goal difference, and a 5-3-6 record, four points above the danger zone. They were pretty good on the home soil earning 13 points with a 12:11 goal difference and a 4-1-3 record, while on the road they have recorded one win, two draws, and three losses with an 8:12 goal difference, conceding at least a goal in each of those six clashes away from home. They couldn’t keep the clean sheet in the previous three matches, and their defense is one of the worst in the Ligue 1, but they made it up with a solid attacking play, as they are the fifth most efficient team in the league (just 30% of their matches had under 2.5 goals scored in total).

The 29-year old striker Julio Tavares and a 23-year old winger Chang-Hoon Kwon are topping the team’s scoring chart with four goals apiece, while the 25-year old striker Benjamin Jeannot bagged three goals in nine appearances thus far. Four different players are Dijon’s best assist-makers with two dishes so far – Julio Tavares, Naim Sliti, Chang-Hoon Kwon, and Frederic Sammaritano. The 23-year old central midfielder Xeka, who’s playing on loan from Lille, is another key player in Dijon’s squad, scoring two goals and adding one assist to his name in nine appearances this season.

The manager Olivier Dall’Oglio can be proud on his boys so far, and for the next match against Amiens, he cannot count on the centre-back Wesley Lautoa (fractured leg), while all other players are healthy and ready to go.

AMIENS vs. DIJON – Match Prediction

Both teams will try to continue with positive results, so I expect to see a great battle at Stade de la Licorne on Tuesday evening. The home team mostly reckons on a tough and reliable defense, while the visitors possess a strong attack, so we’ll see whose approach is a better option for this clash. I think a draw is the most probable outcome in this one, and I’ll go with the under, as I expect Amiens will try to dictate the tempo of the match in front of the home fans.

MY PICK: Under 2.5 Goals (-133)

ADDITIONAL PICK: Draw (+237)
