Frank Victores-USA TODAY Sports

It will be a battle between Big East opponents when the DePaul Blue Demons (10-5, 2-2 Big East) welcome the Butler Bulldogs (10-7, 1-3 Big East) to Wintrust Arena. The game is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.

Butler Bulldogs at DePaul Blue Demons ATS Prediction

The Bulldogs are hoping for a better outcome after their 70-69 loss to the Xavier Musketeers in their last matchup. Getting to the free throw line was one of Xavier’s biggest strengths. They had 25 free throw attempts, while Butler had just 12. Kamar Baldwin was Butler’s leading scorer with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting.

The last time the Blue Demons were in action, they beat the No. 24 St. John’s Red Storm, 79-71. The Blue Demons had a great free throw rate of 0.262 (above their season average of 0.231) and held the Red Storm to an offensive rebounding percentage of 17.1 (below the 23.0 mark opponents have averaged against DePaul this season). With 18 points and 10 rebounds, Paul Reed put together a good performance for DePaul.

After the Bulldogs won both contests against the Blue Demons last season, this will be the first matchup of the year between these two teams. In the most recent contest, Butler won 80-57. Butler had a much better turnover percentage (14.7 vs. 27.7). DePaul, on the other hand, had a much better offensive rebounding percentage (29.4 vs. 22.9).

It could be a sloppy game for the DePaul offense. DePaul ranks 209th in the country in ball protection (turnover percentage of 19.4 percent), while the gambling defense of Butler forces the 93rd-most turnovers in the nation (21.1 percent).
