Garcia vs Thurman Odds For Saturday

Garcia vs Thurman Odds For Saturday – This Saturday night sees undefeated welterweight champions Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman lock up in a highly anticipated match-up between two of the best in boxing’s most scrutinized weight class.

Garcia is 33-0 and he has held the WBC world title since January of 2016 when he defeated Robert Guerrero for the title vacated by Floyd Mayweather Jr. Though he fought a November match against Samuel Vargas of Colombia last year, that was a non-title fight and this match with Thurman marks Garcia’s first welterweight title defense. Garcia previously held multiple world titles at 140 pounds, where he fought as a world champion through six title defenses before vacating those belts to move up in weight.

For his part, Thurman enters at 27-0 and he has held a piece of the WBA’s welterweight world title for a long time. In July of 2013 he won an “interim” version of the title with a win over Argentina’s Diego Gabriel Chaves and he defended the interim belt several times. In March of 2015 he upgraded to the full version of the world title with a win over Robert Guerrero (yes the same Guerrero that Garcia bet for his title). Thurman has defended the full belt twice including a June of 2016 fight with highly rated former champion Shawn Porter that received “Fight of the Year” consideration.

The fight not only pits two of the best fighters in the world, the build up to the fight has left it evident that the two men do not like each other. Thurman has grown fond of calling his opponent “Cherry Garcia” and accusing him of cherry picking his opponents. Meanwhile Garcia usually let’s his father Angel do the talking and Angel unleashed a tirade on Thurman that got him banned from subsequent press conferences. He will be there come fight time however.

The Premier Boxing Champions is presenting this fight on free TV, airing on CB in the United States. All of the above makes the fight “must see” boxing.

Garcia vs Thurman Odds For Saturday

Right now the sports books have posted two of the fights on what is a major card promoted by Lou DiBella and his DiBella entertainment. Undefeated prospect Erickson Lubin (17-0)  is slated for a 12 round bout with veteran Jorge Cota (25-1) and stand out women’s featherweight Heather Hardy (18-0) faces Edina Kiss (13-2) in a bout that sees the WBC’s International title on the line.

The one match that is appearing already comes at light heavyweight and sees veterans Andrzej Fonfara (28-4) squaring off against Chad Dawson (34-4). Entering 2016 Fonfara was one of the hottest fighters in the weight class but he was brutally knocked out in June by Joe Smith Jr in what was Fonfara’s lone fight of 2016. Dawson is a former world champion who at 34 years old is looking to make one last run at the top. In October of 2014 he lost to Tommy Karpency via split decision to give him three losses in his prior four fights. Two of those fights were losses for world titles, against Andre Ward at 168 pounds and Adonis Stevenson at 175 pounds, and they seemed to show that Dawson’s better days were behind him. He came back in December of 2015 and is 2-0 since then.
