Tatum was distraught after the Celtics’ Finals defeat

Losing the NBA Finals must not be simple. Jayson Tatum, a talented player for the Boston Celtics, became incredibly depressed after losing to the Warriors in June. Tatum said to the press, “You know, those three, four days thereafter, I was terrible. I was, truly. It took some time for me to recover from that state and resume living my life normally, enjoying spending time with my son and my family.”

After defeating the Celtics in a spirited, six-game series, Golden State won its fourth NBA championship in eight seasons. Over the course of those six games, Tatum averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 assists, and 6.8 rebounds, but those totals weren’t sufficient to defeat Finals MVP Steph Curry and the rest of the Warriors’ championship-winning team.

Since being selected by Boston in 2017, Tatum has yet to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy, and coming up just short of doing so this past season has taken a toll on him. Tatum, though, appears to be concentrating on obtaining his first ring.
