Jayson Tatum’s long-awaited return to the Boston Celtics lineup came with understandable nerves, but the All-Star forward ultimately settled in and made a steady all-around impact in a 120-100 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Playing in his first game in 298 days, Tatum acknowledged feeling anxious early before finding a better rhythm as the night went on.

Tatum finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, contributing across the box score rather than forcing his offense in his first game back. Early on, he worked to regain timing and comfort, appearing more focused on making the right reads and keeping the offense moving than on hunting shots. As the game progressed, he became more assertive, attacking the glass and facilitating for teammates while still picking his spots to score.

Boston’s coaching staff appeared to ease Tatum into the flow, using him in a variety of situations without overextending him. He operated both on and off the ball, alternating between initiating in the half court and spacing the floor on the perimeter. His passing stood out, as he consistently found cutters and open shooters, helping the Celtics maintain offensive balance.

On the boards, Tatum’s presence was a boost. His 12 rebounds helped Boston control possessions and limit Dallas’ second-chance opportunities. Defensively, he worked within the team scheme, focusing on positioning and communication as he reacclimated to game speed and physicality after the long layoff.

Teammates appeared comfortable integrating Tatum back into their established structure, with the offense flowing through multiple hands rather than revolving solely around his scoring. That approach allowed Tatum to contribute without pressing, and his seven assists reflected a willingness to keep the ball moving and trust the system.

By the second half, Tatum looked more relaxed, his movements smoother and his decisions quicker. While the night was not about a dominant scoring outburst, it marked a productive and encouraging step for both player and team. The Celtics secured a 20-point win, and Tatum left the floor having logged a well-rounded performance that suggested a solid foundation for building back to his usual form over the coming games.
