The 2026 NFL training camps have begun across the league, and the Houston Texans are holding their camp at NRG Park in Houston. Team reporters are on site each day, and Texans reporter D.J. Bien-Aime is cataloging standouts, highlights, position battles, depth chart movement and cut decisions. The file of updates will be refreshed frequently as camp progresses.
General manager Nick Caserio said the organization was more forthcoming than usual regarding contract discussions and acknowledged there is a “possibility” the team and quarterback C.J. Stroud could reach an extension, according to the camp report. Stroud is entering his fourth NFL season and is eligible for an extension for the first time in his career.
Stroud has not been dwelling on contract talk, letting his agent handle negotiations while he focuses on football and, as noted in the report, is “keeping the main thing the main thing.” Coach DeMeco Ryans said he tends to avoid deep discussions about contracts with players and emphasized on-field performance as the determinant for earning deals.
Ryans was quoted directly on the subject, saying, “I truly believe you get the contract by what you do on the field. It doesn’t matter what you say, what I say. It’s about how you perform on the field, and if you’re worthy of getting a contract and you deserve it, it’ll happen for you.”
On the field, one of the liveliest moments of a relatively quiet morning came when cornerback Kamari Lassiter made a diving interception of Stroud and then punted the ball in celebration, an action singled out in the camp notes.
The Texans’ update file will continue to be maintained through training camp; the first full week of the preseason is scheduled to begin Aug. 13, and additional reports will follow as the team finalizes its roster decisions.
