Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners Odds

Oddsmakers have listed Texas (+130) as the underdog to Seattle (-140). The total sits at 8.5 runs and bettors can wager on the over or the under for -110. The game’s most recent runline odds stand at -170 for betting the Rangers +1.5 runs and +150 for the Mariners -1.5.

The Mariners are 23-17 SU and 23-16 ATS. The team has gained 4.8 units for moneyline bettors and 6.1 units against the spread (ATS). Seattle has a 3-4 ATS mark over its last seven games and the total has gone over in four of those seven. The Rangers are 16-26 SU and have gone 16-26 ATS. Overall, the team’s lost 2.9 units for gamblers taking the moneyline in this young season and 14.2 units ATS. Texas has covered the spread just once in its last seven games and the under has hit in four of those seven.

Mariners games have an over/under record of 24-15 so far in 2018. Rangers games have gone over 21 times, gone under 18 times and pushed on three instances.

Southpaw Mike Minor is the probable starter for Texas. Minor is 3-2 with a 4.72 ERA and 32 strikeouts. He’s 0-0 with six strikeouts and a 1.69 ERA against Seattle this year.

The Mariners will put the ball in the right hand of Mike Leake (4-3, 5.72 ERA, 1.51 WHIP), who’s got 32 punchouts and 16 walks this season. Leake hasn’t faced the Rangers yet this year, but he made two starts against them in 2017, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.46 ERA and 10 strikeouts.

Texas’ pitching staff allowed 5.3 runs per game and its starting pitchers own a 5.15 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 7.22 K/9. The bullpen has logged an ERA of 4.35, along with a WHIP of 1.47 and a K-per-9 of 8.33.

The Rangers offense has slashed .229/.300/.392 on its way to 3.9 runs scored per game this year, including 3.0 runs per game against divisional foes and 2.4 per game over the team’s last five contests (2-3 SU).

Right fielder Nomar Mazara and third baseman Adrian Beltre have led Texas’ hitters. Mazara is slashing .284/.343/.523 with 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 23 runs scored, while Beltre (.314/.375/.422) is up to one homers, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Putting up a slash line of .206/.276/.360 across 301 plate appearances, Mazara didn’t perform especially well on the road last year (compared to his total season line of .253/.323/.422).

In the other dugout, Seattle’s pitchers have given up 4.5 runs per game overall in 2018. The team’s starters have a 4.85 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings. The bullpen has a 4.10 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 10.2 K/9. In 16 games against AL West foes, Mariners starters have an ERA of 4.85 and the bullpen’s ERA is 4.83.

The Seattle hitters are putting up 4.6 runs per contest, including 4.1 per game against divisional foes and 5.2 per game over their last five. The team has hit .282/.368/.463 over its last five games and is 3-2 SU during that stretch.

Outfielder Mitch Haniger and second baseman Robinson Cano have led the Mariners’ batters so far. Haniger is hitting .285/.373/.563 with 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 20 runs scored, and Cano’s line is .287/.385/.441 with four homers, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Compared to his overall season slash line of .282/.352/.491, Haniger did not do as well hitting against lefty pitching at home last season, slashing .231/.286/.442 over 56 such plate appearances.

The Rangers have gained 0.5 units and are 12-17 ATS when facing a righty starter this season. The over has hit in 14 of those games, compared to 14 that’ve gone under in such games. On the other hand, the Mariners have netted 0.1 units and are 9-5 ATS when facing a lefty starter. The over has cashed in six of those games, compared to eight that went under the total.
