The Top 5 Premier League Scorers So Far This Season

Vardy has been phenomenal this season.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Chelsea’s Diego Costa and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney are among the notable Premier League forwards that have struggled out of the gate this season but it hasn’t been for a lack of firepower across the league. A number of star forwards stepping up including this year’s breakthrough star from Leicester City. It doesn’t do you any good if you drafted the aforementioned big names at the top of your draft or if you’ve been investing in them in fantasy, though. Here is a closer look at the top five Premier League scorers so far this season.

Jamie Vardy, Leicester City

Vardy will have the opportunity to break the Premier League record for consecutive games with at least one goal this weekend versus Manchester United after he registered at least one goal in each of Leicester’s first 13 contests. That matched the mark set by Ruud van Nistelrooy. The 28-year-old has come out of nowhere to take England’s top division by storm and nobody is overlooking him anymore as the Premier League’s top scorer this season. Leicester has been incredibly efficient at the offensive end – mostly because of Vardy – but they lead the Premier League with 28 goals so far. They’ve been this year’s Cinderella story and all eyes will be on their first place showdown with Manchester United this weekend to see if Vardy can break the record.

Romelu Lukaku, Everton

Lukaku has done everything that Everton has asked from him this season with nine goals through 14 games. The Belgium international scored twice in last week’s win over Aston Villa to follow in the footsteps of legendary players such as Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo as the fifth player to score 50 Premier League goals by the age of 23. Everton has been impressive at the offensive end as they’ve managed to score 24 goals in 13 games so far this season, which boils down to nearly two per game. Their 24 tallies are the third-most in the EPL.

Vardy’s record run has taken some of the attention away from Everton’s star striker but Lukaku deserves plenty of credit for what he has achieved to this point.

Harry Kane, Tottenham

After struggling throughout the first couple of weeks of the season, Kane has come on strong of late with two goals last week to bring his season total to eight markers (in 13 games). It didn’t take long for the 22-year-old to rediscover his scoring touch and if he can continue to build on his recent play, he could very well help Spurs challenge for a spot in the top four this season. They’re currently fifth in the standings at the beginning of the weekend as they too have scored 24 goals. That ties them with Everton and West Ham for the third-most in the EPL only behind Leicester City and Manchester City.

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal

Giroud has edged out fellow Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez as the team’s leading scorer through the first 13 games with seven goals. The 29-year-old French international has scored in every other game for the Gunners over their last six and there is no reason to expect him and Sanchez to slow down anytime soon. They continue to lead the way up front for an Arsenal side that is right there in the mix among the top Premier League contenders. They’re in fourth in the standings table and have scored 23 goals on the season.

Odion Ighalo, Watford

Ighalo has been one of the most overlooked forwards so far this season with seven goals and two assists in 13 games to help Watford open the year with a respectable 4-4-5 record. Watford has not been a very prolific offense as they have just 12 goals on the season but that further shows how valuable Ighalo has been to them.

The Nigerian international is currently tied with Kane and Giroud at seven goals, slightly edging out Aguero, Sanchez, Graziano Pelle and Georginio Wignaldum as a top five scorer in the Premier League right now.
