Thursday MLB Fantasy Picks: Look For Brett Lawrie To Make A Splash

Brett Lawrie could hit it big for the A's tonight.

For our MLB Super Seven and Sleeper we will focus on evening action with our prices from Draft Kings.

P – Clay Buchholz – Boston

Buchholz opened at $7,400.  The Red Sox are at the Tampa Bay Rays with a starting time of 6:10 p.m. ET.  As expected the Rays are off to a sluggish start at 7-8 and are struggling at the plate. Tampa Bay ranks 23rd in MLB for runs scored and just 20th for team batting average.  Buchholz is a bargain buy after an admittedly terrible start in which he had a 6.06 ERA after three starts and with overall numbers that are far below his career averages.  We call for Buchholz to get back on track against a weak Tampa Bay team and with good support from his first place team.

C – Russell Martin – Toronto

Navarro opened at $4,300.  The Blue Jays host the Baltimore Orioles with a starting time of 6:07 p.m. ET.  The Blue Jays are going against Baltimore starter Chris Tillman who has struggled in the early going.  Tillman has a 5.52 ERA in three games with 17 hits, eight walks, and three home runs allowed in 14.2 innings of work.  Martin should get an opportunity to put get out of what has been a terrible start with his new team.  Martin is hitting a pathetic .146 with a slugging percentage of just .317 and an OPS of .638 which are all numbers far below his career stats.  Martin is overdue to get on track against a Baltimore pitching staff that ranks 28th in MLB for earned run average.

1B – Mike Napoli – Boston

Napoli opened at $4,000.  Napoli is off to a terrible start hitting just .170 with a slugging percentage of .234 and an OPS of .550.  Those numbers are all far below Napoli’s career numbers and he figures to stand a solid chance of breaking out against the Rays poor pitching staff that ranks 20th in MLB for ERA.

2B – Brett Lawrie – Oakland

Lawrie opened at $3,700.  The A’s are at the Los Angeles Angels with a starting time of 6:05 p.m. ET.  Oakland will be going up against Angels starter Nick Tropeano, who has gotten off to a sluggish start.  Tropeano has a 4.57 ERA with a WHIP of 1.29 and has allowed 19 hits and nine walks in just 21.2 innings of work.  Lawrie has plenty of upside as his .246 batting average, .292 on base percentage, and .328 slugging percentage are all below his career numbers.

3B – David Freese – Los Angeles Angels

Freese opened at $4,500.  Freese is yet another player that is far below his career numbers for batting average and on base percentage.  Freese is hitting just .254 with an on base percentage of just .279 which will not last for long.  With four doubles and three home runs, Freese is showing the potential for good power and solid production.  Freese has scored eight runs with 11 runs batted in.

SS – Alexei Ramirez – Chicago White Sox

Ramirez opened at $4,100.  The White Sox host the Kansas City Royals with a starting time of 7:10 p.m. ET.  The White Sox will be going up against Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura, who has struggled out of the gate with a 4.80 ERA.  Ventura has allowed five walks, three home runs, 12 hits and eight earned runs in just 15 innings of work.  Ramirez is far below his career numbers so far with a .217 batting average, .269 on base percentage, .326 slugging percentage and .595 OPS.  With plenty of upside we like this bargain buy on Ramirez.  We consider Ramirez to be one of the most valuable shortstops in fantasy baseball.

OF – Melky Cabrera – Chicago White Sox

Cabrera opened at $4,200.  The White Sox will be going up against a Kansas City team that is missing its closer, Greg Holland, whom has been put on the 15 day disabled list.  Holland is one of the top closers in the game and his absence is a major blow to a Kansas City team that is slowing down after a hot start.  Cabrera has seven runs and a .293 batting average to start the season.

Sleeper – Mookie Betts – Boston

Betts opened at $4,200.  Again we oppose a weak Tampa Bay pitching staff with Betts, the Red Sox center fielder.  Betts is yet another player that is hitting far below his career numbers and has what we believe to be plenty of upside.
