Tom Watson appointed Director of Cross Country and Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

At Boston College, Pete Watson has been appointed director of men’s and women’s track and field and cross country. After serving as the men’s cross country and distance coach at the University of Texas for the last three seasons, Watson has moved to the Heights.

Blake James, the director of athletics, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Pete Watson to our Boston College Athletics family. Pete was the perfect option for our new Director of Track & Field and Cross Country,” said the hiring committee. “His background as a dynamic leader, championship coach, and exceptional recruiter.”

With Watson’s assistance, Texas track saw a comeback, and the Longhorns won the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. To win the indoor national title, Texas’ distance players contributed 24 of the team’s final 47 points. He was also named the National Assistant Coach of the Year for NCAA Division I Men’s Indoor Track & Field in 2022.
