Top 5 Betting Trends for NFL Week 3

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Week 2 of the NFL season was a wild one as a number of shoddy kicking performances threw handicappers for a loop. Let’s shift our focus and look at the Top 5 Betting Trends for NFL Week 3 that bettors should pay attention to heading in to next Sunday.

New York Jets are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games versus Cleveland. The Browns are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 home games.

The Jets hit a wall in a 20-12 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. However, they should be in a good position to bounce back on the road against the Cleveland Browns. New York is 5-0 ATS and straight up in its last five games versus Cleveland regardless of home field advantage.

The fact that the Browns haven’t won a game since 2016 should certainly help the confidence of rookie quarterback Sam Darnold and company this week. Despite their winless run, Cleveland is still listed as a field goal favorite at home.

The total has gone under in seven of New Orleans’ last nine road games against Atlanta. 15 of the last 26 meetings between the teams in Atlanta have gone under.

The Saints offense didn’t inspire much confidence until the fourth quarter against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2. Now they head on the road for a tough NFC South showdown against Atlanta. The total has gone under in seven of the last nine games between these teams.

The Falcons offense exploded for 31 points in last week’s win over Carolina. However, Atlanta managed just 12 points against the Philadelphia Eagles the week before and the total has gone under in eight of the Falcons’ last nine games overall. These teams combined for 37 and 36 points in their two meetings a year ago. The total for this Sunday’s game has been set at 53.5.

Miami is 5-1 straight up in its last six games versus Oakland

The Miami Dolphins are being talked about as sleeper playoff contenders after opening the season with back-to-back wins over the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets. Now they will get the opportunity to improve to 3-0 against a winless Oakland Raiders squad that has struggled in each of the first two weeks of the season.

Miami is 5-1 straight up in its last six games versus Oakland. Meanwhile, the total has gone over in each of the last five meetings between the sides.

Jacksonville is 5-0 straight up in its last five games at home.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are also off to an impressive start with back-to-backs wins over the New York Giants and the New England Patriots in the first two weeks. Now they will try to stay hot at home against the visiting Tennessee Titans with a chance to extend their home win streak to six.

The Jaguars have lost four of their previous five meetings with Tennessee, so this AFC South showdown will carry an added sense of significance as they look to take control of their division.

Carolina is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games at home.

The Panthers are coming off a tough road loss to the Atlanta Falcons. However, they should be able to bounce back against the Cincinnati Bengals at home where they have looked much more comfortable dating back to last season. Carolina is 5-1 against the spread in its last six home games overall.

The Panthers are also 5-0 straight up in their last five home games. Cincinnati has surprised through the first two games of the season but could be overdue for a loss. Look for Carolina to bounce back with a win this Sunday afternoon.
