The Top Offensive Playmakers In The SEC East Heading In To The 2016 Season

The SEC East is projected to be wide open again in 2016 with Tennessee, Florida and Georgia among the favorites to represent that division in the SEC Championship game. Which team ultimately comes out on top will likely come down to the star players that perform the best when the spotlight is at its brightest. We took the time to break down the rosters in an effort to separate the best from the rest and there is a good chance these five players will have a major impact on how things unfold this year. Here is a look at the top five offensive playmakers in the SEC East heading in to the 2016 college football season.

Joshua Dobbs

Tennessee Volunteers

It isn’t crazy by any means to think that Dobbs can be the best quarterback in the SEC next season. There is no doubt that he is already the most athletic of them and his dual-threat ability makes him one of the most dangerous playmakers in the SEC regardless of division heading in to 2016. Dobbs completed 59.6-percent of his passes for 2,291 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior last season with 671 rushing yards and an additional 11 rushing scores. His progression on the field was clearly evident for anybody that watched his as the year progressed and it will be very interesting to see what he has in store for his senior season in 2016.

Nick Chubb

Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia’s star running back had his sophomore season cut short by a gruesome knee injury that is expected to keep him out until the fall. However, based on what we have seen it would be impossible to keep him off this list. Chubb is an athletic freak that absolutely dominated as a freshman and had picked up from where he left off in his sophomore season before he was sidelined. The 5’10’’, 220-pund back is an explosive playmaker that has the potential to carry the Bulldogs on his back when he returns to full strength and football fans in Georgia continue to pray that his recovery remains on schedule and he is ready for the 2016 season.

Alvin Kamara

Tennessee Volunteers

The fact that the Vols have two players on this list is testament to their explosiveness on the offensive side of the football. The reality is that Kamara’s presence will compliment Dobbs’ ability perfectly and help take some of the pressure off of Tennessee’s passing attack. Kamara is a 6’4’’, 240-pound bruiser that also flashed some impressive speed in space last season. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry while rushing for 698 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore a year ago and he has the potential to be even better with another year of experience in a loaded Vols’ offense this season.

Stanley “Boom” Williams

Kentucky Wildcats

Kentucky’s star running back isn’t talked about as much as he probably should be based on the fact that there isn’t much talent around him. However, anybody that watched “Boom” Williams a year ago knows how impressive he is. Williams averaged a ridiculous 7.1 yards per carry while rushing for 855 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore last season and his big play ability was particularly evident in the instances when the Wildcats managed to get him the ball in space. His overall rushing numbers will likely be limited again based he is surrounded with at Kentucky but there is no doubt about Williams’ ability as an explosive offensive playmaker.

Ralph Webb

Vanderbilt Commodores

Webb was overlooked at times as a 5’10’’, 200-pound running back in an otherwise averaged offense at Vanderbilt last season but a closer look at his numbers shows how impressive his 2015 performance was. Webb averaged 4.2 yards per carry while rushing for 1,152 yards and five touchdowns with opposing defenses loading the box to snuff the run the majority of the time. He isn’t the biggest running back by any means but he is extremely shifty and quick with excellent breakaway speed and there is no doubt that Webb returns as one of the best offensive playmakers in the SEC East heading in to the 2016 season.
