Top Performers At Each Position On Offense For Week 6

Week 6 of the college football season delivered more drama and incredible highlights as the best in the FBS looked to put on a show. Alabama, Ohio State and Michigan continued to roll while Washington made a statement on the road at Oregon and Houston stumbled as the visiting team against Navy. Who delivered the top performances on offense this past weekend? Here is a look at the top performers at each position on offense for week six of the college football season.

QB: Jake Browning, Washington Huskies

The Huskies followed up their 40-6 blowout win over Stanford with another lopsided victory as they took down Oregon 70-21. Browning was once again the focal point of the offense as he accounted for eight touchdowns in the victory, throwing a school-record six passing scores and running for two more. Browning completed 22 of 28 passes for 304 yards and ran for 21 more as Washington rolled to its second statement win in arrow. The Huskies had lost 12 straight to the Ducks before that victory so it wasn’t just any win for Browning and company. Washington has established itself as a legitimate contender both in the Pac-12and on the national stage and Browning is the biggest reason for it.

RB: Samaje Perine, Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners nearly blew an opportunity in the latest installment of the Red River Rivalry but their junior running back delivered an outstanding performance and they managed to pull out a 45-40 win over Texas. Perine rumbled for 214 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries, which is his highest total since he broke an FBS single-game record in 2014 with 427 yards. It was a back-and-forth contest with Texas as the defenses decided not to show up after halftime. However, it was the Sooners who emerged victories – in great part to Perine – as they couldn’t afford losing to Texas two years in a row.

Oklahoma is far from a perfect team but they have an elite running back leading the way on offense and enough pieces around him to compete for a Big 12 championship once again this season.

WR: Dede Westbrook, Oklahoma Sooners

Perine wasn’t the only standout offensive star for the Sooners in their win over Texas as Westbrook set a school record with 232 yards and three touchdowns on 10 receptions. Those marks were by far the highest totals in the history of the Red River Rivalry and Oklahoma needed every single catch they got from Westbrook in order to come out on top in a close call with the rival Longhorns. Many people may look back to that loss and that performance as to the tipping point in Charlie Strong’s tenure in Texas as he looks like he’s going to get fired in short order.

TE: Scott Orndoff, Pittsburgh Panthers

Pitt managed to steal a 37-34 win over Georgia Tech thanks in big part to the play of their star tight end Orndoff, who reeled in a tipped pass and took it 74 yards for the touchdown with four minutes left on the clock in order to put the Panthers in position to kick the game-winning field. Orndoff finished with just two catches for 86 yards and a score but that massive touchdown was enough to help Pitt come from behind and earn him the top spot at his position on our list of offensive studs.

Offensive Line: Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines steamrolled Rutgers in a 78-0 win that put the entire nation on notice that they are for real playing out of the Big Ten. There was no shortage of stars on both sides of the football for Michigan but the offensive line in particular deserves a ton of credit after the Wolverines averaged 8.6 yards per carry and finished with 481 rushing yards in total. Jabrill Peppers, Karan Higdon, Ty Isaac and Khalid Hill each had a pair of scores while Chris Evans had a team-high 153 yards. Michigan dominated from start to finish and its offensive line sent a message win the blowout victory. They look like they are going to be tough to keep out of the College Football Playoff, but we still have plenty of football to be played before then.
